Kia Ora - Welcome to Ngaru Toa
Ngaru Toa (pronounced Nar-Roo-Tor) means "Wave Warrior".
Ngaru Toa was created more than 20 years ago to reflect the East Coast of New Zealand/Aotearoa culture and the love of wave riding that dates back to ancient times.
The influence of the Ocean/Moana is strong here.
Surfing, Waka Ama, Fishing, Gathering KaiMoana/Seafood,Swimming, Boating and SurfLifesaving are all very popular activities. However the Gisborne/Tairawhiti and East Coast region is not just about the beaches - beautiful as they are. Maori culture is strong here, and that influence is apparent in the thriving local arts scene. The fertile inland valleys produce award winning wines and produce. If you're visiting, check out the visual arts and live music scene while you're here.
That's the mix that Ngaru Toa came from, and that's what we're still about-enjoying and respecting our coast and beaches, and celebrating cultural diversity.
